Instead of a standstill construction site – a park with picnic tables
The park was arranged at a site previously occupied by the temporary offices of the RTV Broadcasting House. The temporary offices were torn down almost overnight, and to prevent an empty plot becoming a parking area or a construction site at a standstill, we proposed the arrangement of a low-budget park; a public space for residents, schoolchildren and RTV employees.
With minimal funding, we tidied up a relatively large area. The city gained a park with several picnic tables and benches, trees, a sandpit, new playground equipment and bicycle stands.
Many nearby associations contributed to the maintenance of the park with positive energy and enthusiasm. This proves that there is a need for an open public space. Even when the property ownership changes from public to private, it should be in the city’s interest to provide its residents the ability to use this space, instead of letting it become a parking lot or an unused, fenced off area.
